When considering a rhinoplasty procedure one of the factors that you have to consider are the potential risks and complications. Some of the risks and adverse reactions can include those that are generally present in any cosmetic surgery, while there are also others that are specific to rhinoplasty itself.

One of the risks that a patient has in rhinoplasty includes anesthesia reactions. There are some patients who do not respond well with anesthetics by showing allergic symptoms. This includes increased heart rate, hives, and difficulty breathing. If left uncontrolled, this can lead to fatal consequences.

Redness and pigmentation over the nasal area may also occur due to the rupture of blood vessels. Along with this bruising may also be apparent, but eventually subsides after a couple of weeks. Some say that there is still some apparent discoloration on the nose which could last for a year, but it can easily be concealed with makeup.

Due to the rupture of some blood vessels, oxygenation to the area may also become impaired. Aside from delayed wound healing, the worst case that can happen from this would be tissue necrosis or what is also known as tissue death.

Toxic shock syndrome is also another serious risk and complication in rhinoplasty; however it also rarely occurs with as much as 0.016% occurring yearly. Symptoms include rashes, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever.

These risks and complications can be avoided when you choose a good surgeon. He should be one who specializes on ENT (Ears, Nose and Throat) to ensure that he is well versed on the structures and how to manipulate them properly. He should have good patient history and reviews. And that he is board-certified to do his practice.
